Sometimes the story is needed not by a client but by us. We gathered with colleagues, picked a date and shot a story with no guests, no timeline and nothing to approve — only an idea. The idea was simple: a wedding that fits entirely inside a cinema.

We started outside, at a glass booth with a «PHOTOS» sign and a red curtain inside. Cold street light, grey pavement, red tights and black heels — the only bright thing in the frame. The booth prints a strip: four black-and-white squares of two people laughing in a tight space. Later it lies on the table next to the glasses.

Inside — red carpet, red doors, a long line of lamps down the corridor ceiling. A white satin floor-length dress, black gloves above the elbow, pearls in the ears, red lipstick. There is more than one veil: first a dense net over half the face, then long tulle that leaves only the eyes and the mouth. Red tulips are either in her hands or lying on the carpet.

In the hall there are red seats and an old black-and-white film on the screen: a man and a woman standing closer than they should. The two in the hall sit the same way. Instead of dinner — popcorn on a skewer in a glass and two cocktails, yellow and pink. Instead of toasts — cards: «Her vows» in calligraphy, «AMORE» written in lipstick, and two heart lollipops on sticks.

After that everything turns into play. They hide behind the red curtain of the booth — her face above, his below, both with lollipops. They show the cards to each other and to the camera. They laugh in the seats with a box of popcorn once the lights are down. None of it was in the plan.

We arrange days like this for ourselves. They test things you cannot agree on with a client in advance: how one colour holds from the first frame to the last, how much prop it takes to make a scene, where staging ends and the real thing begins. Later it comes back into the work — this time without experiments.
